Purple Passionvine or Maypop Passionvine, is a Florida native passionvine that is evergreen, perennial and showy. It’s planted both as a medicinal plant for people and as a host plant for the Gulf Fritillary, Zebra Longwing, and Julia butterflies.

Purple Passionvine or Maypop Passionvine, is a Florida native passionvine that is evergreen, perennial and showy. It’s planted both as a medicinal plant for people and as a host plant for the Gulf Fritillary, Zebra Longwing, and Julia butterflies.

  • Native “Maypop,” evergreen, flowering vine.

  • Grow on trellis, let it climb a tree, fence, post or let it be a groundcover. 

  • Sun to partial shade, dry to average soil.

  • Showy, purple flowers, edible fruit for people

  • Host plant for the gulf fritillary, zebra longwing, crimson patch longwing, red banded hairstreak, and julia butterflies.
